Xi'An has a few of restaurants that have been around for over 100 years. Here are our favorite old Xi'An restaurants.

Xi’An is one of China’s oldest cities and features ancient Chinese treasures like the Terracotta Army, Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s unopened tomb, and the Bell Tower. Surrounded by a big city wall, the center of Xi’An used to be the Emperor’s palace. With all of this history, Xi’An has a few restaurants that have seen the many changes in the past 100 years.

Lao Sun Jia 老孙家饭庄

Lao Sun Jia 老孙家饭庄 is one of Xi'an's oldest restaurants at over 100 years old.

Established: 1898 (118 years old)

Address: 78 Dongguan Main Street, 3rd Floor 碑林区 东关正街78号老孙家3层(人人乐超市斜对面)

This century-old Muslim restaurant sits just outside of the east gate of the Xi’An city wall. While they have since opened a few other restaurants around the city, the original location of Lao Sun Jia is famous for it’s Lamb Meat and Bread Soup 羊肉泡馍. They also have stewed oxtail and lamb dumplings.

Nian Zhi Po 辇止坡老童家腊牛羊肉 is one of Xi'An's oldest restaurants at over 100 years old.

Established: 1700s (over 300 years old)

Address: 162 North Guangji Street, Lianhu District 莲湖区北广济街162号(西大街与桥梓口什字北侧路口)

It’s not know the exact date that Nian Zhi Po opened in Xi’An, but it’s been around for over 300 years. While it’s just a simple street stand that serves dried beef and lamb, it’s been going strong since the early Qing Dynasty. It is highly revered by locals for it’s quality and taste.

Jia San Guan Soup Dumplings 贾三灌汤包子

Jia San Guan Soup Dumplings 贾三灌汤包子 is one of Xi'an's oldest restaurants at over 100 years old.

Established: 1700s (over 300 years old)

Address: 93 North City Gate, Near Drum Tower 莲湖区 西羊市回民街北院门93号(近鼓楼)

Three hundred years ago, 3 men from Nanjing came to the ancient city, then known as Chang’An, and opened a dumpling shop. By 1903, it was already famous among locals. Today, the Jia San Guan brand is known for serving exquisitely made dumplings with fresh meat.

Xi’An Roast Duck 西安烤鸭店

Xi’An Roast Duck 西安烤鸭店 is one of Xi'an's oldest restaurants at 100 years old in China.

Established: 1916 (100 years old)

Address: 25 Xingqing Road Middle Section, Beilin District 碑林区 兴庆路中段25号(兴庆公园东门正对面)

This year is the 100th birthday of Xi’An Roast Duck, allowing it to just make this list. Xi’An has its own version of roast duck, different from Beijing, and this restaurant really embodies the tradition. The skin is super crispy and the duck is roasted to a hearty red color.

De Mao Gong 德懋恭

De Mao Gong 德懋恭 is one of Xi'An's oldest brand food stores in China, over 100 years old.

Established: 1872 (144 years old)

Address: Xida Street and Guangji Street Intersection, Lianhu District 莲湖区 西大街广济街DS(都城隍庙)

Technically, De Mao Gong is actually a food store, but because it is over 100 years old and is world-renown for it’s special Crystal Cakes, it makes our list. These Crystal Cakes come with all different fillings, red bean, radish, egg yolk, sweet potato, etc. Even though it’s not a restaurant, locals say the cakes are a must have when visiting Xi’An.

Lao Xu Jia Persimmon Cake 老徐家柿子饼

Lao Xu Jia Persimmon Cake 老徐家柿子饼 is one of Xi'An's oldest restaurants at over 100 years old.

Established: late 1800s (over 100 years old)

Address: 119 North Guangji Street, Lianhu District 莲湖区 北广济街119号

While Persimmon cakes can be found in a few other cities in China, namely Hangzhou and Fujian, none are as good as the ones in Xi’An. And the king of Persimmon cakes is Lao Xu Jia, a 100+ year old food stand within the city walls. Crispy skin with oozing filling is the only way these cakes should be, so pick one up at this old school stall.
